[ rolls it over in his hands! it looks like A GUN but there are what look like little decorative crystals along the barrel. there's one crystal right next to the trigger mechanism that's glowing faintly ]
Basically, when it shoots there's a little spell that goes off to create a little zone of silence to cover the sound. The energy that would normally turn into recoil gets converted into magical energy and fills up one of these stones. Firing the gun while it's out of regular bullets will shoot out that energy as a projectile! It's not as deadly as a bullet, but it'll stun whoever it hits to give time to reload or run. Firing it should have approximately the same physical feedback as a foam dart gun!
