I can see why researching that kind of anomaly is important to understanding how to prevent Overblot from being fatal. But usually you'd want written consent from the people you want to examine first. Having cooperation will lead to better results.
It sounds like you can't control how the Charon squad act either. Your school sounds the most responsible for the situation. If someone wants to complain, they should take it up with the headmaster.
I mean, the Headmage is useless but it's not like he's malicious or something... the other teachers are competent and the educational curriculum is good.
I wish your researchers the best of luck. Do they have energy drinks on your world? All the scientists I know guzzle those like water while they're compiling data. It's a good investment.
